Featured guests for this month are Jordan Irvine and Jenna Heller with Jasmine as MC.

Jordan Irvine is an Ōtepoti born and Ōtautahi based poet. They have been published in The Spinoff, bad apple, The Art Lens, Symposia amongst others. Their work deals with the absurd nature of the world and their place in it. They are also unemployed so if you like the cut of their jib please present a job opportunity to them as soon as possible.

Jenna Heller is an American-New Zealand writer who lives in Ōtautahi. Alongside writing beautiful poetry, Jenna is an accomplished flash fiction writer, having won National Flash Fiction Day and appearing in three editions of the international Best Small Fictions anthology. Her debut flash collection, The End of the Beginning, was published in 2024 (At the Bay | I te Kokoru), followed by her first poetry collection, The Dancing Bicycle, in 2025 (Sudden Valley Press).

Calling all poets, spoken-word lovers, and creative spirits!

The Octagon Poetry Collective brings together local and visiting poets for monthly readings and an open mic in the heart of Dunedin. Whether you're an experienced writer or new to sharing your work, this welcoming session offers a supportive stage to listen, perform, and connect with Ōtepoti’s vibrant literary community. 

When: Monthly — second Wednesday of the month at 7pm (check their Facebook/Octagon Collective or Instagram/@octagoncollectivepoetry pages for updates)
Where: New Athenaeum Theatre in The Octagon, Dunedin
What to Expect: Featured guest poets, open mic, warm atmosphere, free entry.

Bring a poem to share or just come and enjoy the words — with drinks and snacks available from the theatre.
