Free Online Poetry Workshop: Poetry for sailors, from armchair to open water
Thursday, 25th June 2026 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Run by sailor-poet-editor Michelle Elvy
This workshop will explore writing about the sea. Its many states. Its moods. The unexpected sense of nature. The human-ocean intersection. The changes over an hour, over a century. The questions the sea makes us ask. The way it evokes something beyond words. How to deal with something so vast in a poem on a page? This workshop’s for you – even if you’ve never written a poem.
We’ll look at the space between form and content: language and rhythm; metaphor and meaning; small detail and the abstract world of ideas; the personal and the universal.
All work generated from this workshop will be considered for submission to the Landing Press anthology about water!
The workshop will take place online in Zoom.
