Otago Medical School Alumni Association Lecture
Tuesday, 30th June 2026 5:15 PM
Online or Barnett Lecture Theatre, First Floor Dunedin Hospital
Lecturer: Professor Emerita Dawn Elder
In 2025 the Otago Medical School celebrated its 150th Anniversary. New Zealand’s first medical school was established just 6 years after the establishment of Otago University and had a bit of a rocky start encountering staffing and financial issues early on. The talk will discuss developments over the years with a focus on early graduates and staff.
Dawn Elder graduated from Otago Medical School in 1980 and trained in Paediatrics in New Zealand and overseas. From 1995 -2023 she was a joint clinical academic staff member in the Dept of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Otago Wellington and became Professor Emerita on retirement. She was Chair of the organising Committee planning the 150th Anniversary celebration for the Otago Medical School which was held at Kings Birthday weekend in 2025.
