Poetry Workshop - Found and Lost: Shape, Shadow and Light in Poetry and Sand
Saturday, 11th April 2026 10:00 AM
Beachhaven Pilot House, Aramoana
A collaborative experience at the water’s edge, taking place in the physically engaging space of Aramoana, with a view to the temporary nature of acts of creation. We’ll look at movement as a creative concept, why making something may not mean permanence – and how we learn more by paying attention to the fleeting nature of things. The rhythms of tides and the wash of sand provide a natural landscape for art and poetry.
We’ll begin with sand drawing, with a view to shadows and shapes and deep grooves. We’ll also build poems from the experience of sand and water and shadow. In the end, most evidence of our being there will be washed away, but our discussions will encourage creative work around impermanence and sustainability, and we’ll capture the day’s experience and creation through photography and a poetry publication.
Sand drawing, poetry and impermanence – fleeting things captured in black, white and grey, with a collective chapbook.
