New Zealand Children's Book Week: Reading Around Aotearoa!

By Read NZ Te Pou Muramura | Posted: Thursday Jun 11, 2026

The first ever national book week is happening 15-21 August 2026.

Read NZ invites parents, teachers, caregivers, and whānau to make reading a priority for the children in their lives. To support this, they are offering events and resources that celebrate reading and encourage others to do the same.

Read NZ believes that our places, people, and languages matter, and that all tamariki deserve to see themselves reflected in stories.

Whether it's trying something new or revisiting a favourite, NZ Children's Book Week is a chance to enjoy an audiobook, e-book, picture book, or novel—because all reading is valid.

Booklovers, readers, writers, libraries, illustrators, and bookstores are encouraged to celebrate in whatever way suits them best.

A range of events is already available on the Read NZ website, with more to be announced.
