Dunedin Public Libraries are delighted to announce that the recipient of the 2025 Dunedin Public Libraries' Citation is Richard Joseph.

The citation is awarded annually to a local resident who has made an outstanding contribution to the libraries’ collections, services, or programmes.

The citation was presented to Richard Joseph on 3 December 2025 in recognition of his longstanding contribution and support of the library. Richard has been involved with the library for many years and has made a tangible and meaningful impact on its mahi in several ways.

Initially, his connection with the library was formed through the intensive leadership and personal development training he provided to staff through his excellent Turning Point Programme. As president of the Cedars of Lebanon, Richard became a champion for the library’s digitisation programme. Through his work with the Cedars, he helped secure funding to establish Scattered Seeds – He Purapura Marara, the libraries’ Recollect site.

Richard is also a trustee of the newly established Dunedin Public Libraries Heritage Foundation and has secured external funding for the digitisation of the Downie Stewart Archive.

He continues to mentor and support senior library staff in a voluntary capacity, for which the library is deeply grateful.
