The fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine we meet a new educational course about our native Odessa!
Access to the online course "Strategy for Cultural Development of Odessa" is open - an educational project that helps to rethink the city's history, understand its multilayered identity and separate real historical processes from the myths that have shaped the image of Odessa for decades.
The course offers a professional interdisciplinary conversation about:
how the image of Odessa was formed and transformed;
how heritage preservation mechanisms work;
what responsibility does the community bear for the historical environment;
what does the status of the historical center of Odessa mean in the UNESCO World Heritage List;
what principles determine the strategy of cultural development of Odessa until 2035.
The program consists of 16 lectures in total length of 4 hours and covers both the tangible and intangible heritage of the city, from urban history to modern visual culture.
The course will be useful to cultural workers, educators, students, librarians, representatives of local government bodies and all who are interested in the history and future of Odessa.
Lecturers of the course oksana dovgopolova, babich oleksandr, nick chepelev, Alexander levytsky, maya dimerli, viktoria balasanian, tetiana kryvosheia, dmitry sikorskij
Taking a course helps form a holistic understanding of the city, its role in the Ukrainian context, and the importance of a responsible attitude towards cultural heritage - especially today, when issues of memory, identity and preservation take on new context.
