The New Zealand Young Writers Festival (NZYWF) comprises four days of free, fun literary-focused events held annually in Ōtepoti/Dunedin, a UNESCO City of Literature. We welcome young writers of all stripes to celebrate all forms of wordsmithing, including (but not limited to): slam poetry, poetry, playwriting, songwriting, short fiction, novels, zines, screenwriting, journalism, blogging, critical content creation, podcasts, review writing, and more.

The 2023 festival is our ninth and will take place from Thursday 21 - Sunday 24 September 2023.

We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic Marketing & Communications Manager for the festival. You will be responsible for all aspects of the festival’s marketing including: creating the festival’s marketing strategy; managing media relationships; liaising with educational contacts to encourage secondary and tertiary student attendance; managing the creation and production of marketing collateral, press releases, and social media content; and collaborating on festival evaluation. The contract is for a total of 200 hours, paid at a rate of $30 per hour, as an independent contractor (note: the Marketing & Communications Manager needs to be available to work full-time the week of the festival; hours before and after the festival will be part-time, the schedule of which is open for negotiation).

Our festival Marketing & Communications Manager needs to be a people person who is skilled at building and managing relationships. You’ll need to have excellent communication and copywriting skills, digital marketing experience, the ability to multitask and manage tight deadlines, and attention to detail. Some graphic design skills, along with previous experience in building audiences and engagement, is preferred. Ideally you’ll have a passion for arts, culture and creativity too!

We will consider remote work for the right candidate, but the Marketing & Communications Manager must work in Ōtepoti/Dunedin the week of the festival. The candidate must also be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
