To celebrate NZ Music Month, staff member Christian has created a lovely display called Whakarekarekahia ngā ora ki Ōtepoti at City Library on the ground floor.
Whakarekarekahia ngā ora ki Ōtepoti draws from the collections of Kā kete wānaka o Ōtepoti - Dunedin Public Libraries relating to the unique musical legacy of Ōtepoti Dunedin, and presents a visual history, through the transitory nature of gig posters and flyers, for artist run / DIY venues operating in recent times.
Whakarekarekahia ngā ora ki Ōtepoti encourages the viewer to explore the varied graphic design work on display, engage with the resources available in the library, and also point in the direction of spaces that are currently active and positively contribute to the cultural climate of contemporary Ōtepoti Dunedin.
The poems In the Dragon Cafe and Arriving in Dunedin by Train by local poet Peter Olds serve as literary starting points to explore this rich and layered history of the city.
