Enter the Zephyr Short Story Competition

A brand new short story competition has been launched by the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Society of Authors, but is open to writers from anywhere in the country.

The inaugural Zephyr Short Story Competition is open to all NZ permanent residents, and there is both a junior and adult category.

Entries open on 25 July 2019 and close at 11.59 pm on 30 September 2019.

Judges: Linda Burgess and Fiona Kidman

The competition has two sections:


Open Division

The Open Division is open to New Zealand permanent residents aged 18 and over, who are writing in English. Published and unpublished writers are welcome to enter. Entries must be a single story of no more than 1500 words. It must be an original, unpublished piece of work.
Judge: Linda Burgess

First Prize: $450
($300 in book tokens, $150 in cash)

Second Prize: $300
($200 in book tokens, $100 in cash)

Third Prize: $250
($100 in book tokens, $50 in cash)

Entry fee: $20

Junior Division

The Junior Division is open to New Zealand permanent residents aged 18 years and under, who are writing in English. Published and unpublished writers are welcome to enter. Entries must be a single story of no more than 1,000 words. It must be an original, unpublished piece of work.
Judge: Fiona Kidman

First Prize: $150
(in book tokens)

Second Prize: $100
(in book tokens)

Third Prize: $50
(in book tokens)
