Artist Kerry Mackay's Autumn Lamb

"I adore old taxidermy animals, the cute weirdness of them; the dead striking a pose in pretence of life. Like traditional taxidermy, this artwork contains both the real and the imagined, however my ‘homemade taxidermy’ is inside out: rather than the skin being the ‘real’ thing, it is the skull... Deep in the skull cavity of this Autumnal Lamb dressed in leaves and berries, I have left a fan letter to Margaret Mahy."

Artist Kerry Mackay's Autumn Lamb, which featured in the Landfall Exhibition, was inspired by a Margaret Mahy interview in Landfall 162, June 1987.
