Call for submissions!

Calling all emerging writers from Otago / Southland! Movement & Time. Submissions close 20 May.

NFFD are looking for micros up to 100 words to be included in this year’s poster series, with micros around movement and/or time. Note you might choose to write about one or the other; these themes are intertwined and how you apply them is up to you.

A series will be selected for the 2026 poster series, and artworks from local visual artists will accompany each presentation. See your words up on a poster in this visually stunning series, shared around town and presented at the June 22 NFFD event.

The challenge: Write a small story with the theme in mind – interpreted how you like. A prose poem, a microfiction or creative nonfiction. All styles – you are encouraged to be inventive!

What to submit: 1 piece per writer, up to 100 words.

Where to submit: Email nationalflash@gmail.com, with the subject line: DUNEDIN MICROS 2026.

When to submit: Between now and May 20, midnight.
