This award supports Aotearoa New Zealand non-fiction writers, including those working in education, to dedicate serious time to a writing project. Application close 4pm, Fri 17 July 2026.

Last year’s winner, historian Vincent O'Malley, used the award to focus on his project ‘Whenua: Māori Land Loss Since 1840’ (working title).
