Poetry Box July challenge: Storm poems | Poetry Box
What wintry rainy windy stormy weather we have been having in Aoetearoa.
Trees have fallen, rivers have flooded, roads been blocked, people have lost power.
In West Auckland we lose power a lot! I live in the country so I fill the water buckets and light the fire and watch the storm smash by. Storms often creep into my poems!
I thought I would kickstart poem challenges for Term 3 with a STORM POEM challenge.
Brainstorm storm words!!! Especially verbs and adverbs and adjectives.
Use your ears and eyes to build a list.
Listen to the sound and rhythm of the words on your lines as you write.
You may like to invent some cool storm words.
Your poem might be a sound picture of a storm.
Your poem might tell a storm story.
Your poem might show what the storm looks like.
Test out different endings for your poem – choose your favourite.
Send to: paulajoygreen@gmail.com
Include: your name, age, year, name of school
Deadline: Tuesday July 29th
Don’t forget: to include everyday ordinary poem in email subject line.
I will post some favourite poems on Thursday July 31st and give at last one book away. Remember this is not a competition but a golden opportunity you for you to play with words.
