Poetry Night in Dunedin

The Octagon Collective hosted its first poetry event for 2026 on Wednesday, 11 February in Dunedin at the New Athenaeum Theatre.
Around fifty poets and supporters rolled through the doors at 7pm to be welcomed by MC Eliana Gray who orchestrated the evening with delightful, quirky aplomb.
Feature poets, John Russell-Hodge from Waimate and Canadian Sonja Greckol, wowed the crowd with poems of grief and pandemic summers.
The open mic, as always, presented a broad spectrum of local talent; the sublime, the comedic and everything in between.
The Collective’s next poetry event will be held on March 11, 2026, at the New Athenaeum Theatre in Dunedin. All are welcome!
