Creative Cities Southern Hui is excited to welcome ANNA MARIA LORUSSO as delegate and guest speaker. Anna Maria will be visiting Dunedin, from Bologna UNESCO City of Music, for the duration of the Hui, participating in events and speaking at Creative Connections on Thursday 30th November.

'Creativity, and working in creative fields, can grow only through dialogue and the relationship with 'other worlds'. I do not trust in 'solitary creativity'. I believe creativity can be a tool to strengthen social cohesion.'

Anna Maria Lorusso is Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Communication at the University of Bologna, where she teaches Semiotics, a subject she studied with Umberto Eco.

Her research interests include cultural semiotics, cultural memory and rhetoric. Among her books are: Cultural Semiotics. For a cultural perspective in Semiotics (New York, Palgrave - Macmillan, 2015) and Memosur/MemoSouth: Memory, Commemoration and Trauma in Post-Dictatorship Argentina and Chile (ed) (Nottingham, CCCP, 2017).

Since 1998 she has worked as a consultant in publishing with the most important Italian publishing houses. She is the Director of the Masters in Publishing at the University of Bologna. Since 2016 she has been a member of the Board for the Libraries of Bologna Municipality.

'To participate in the Creative Cities Southern Hui could be a great chance for me to grow professionally and personally. I am excited to share my experiences with people who are geographically very distant from me. I'm sure they will show me something I hadn’t thought of until now.'

Creative Connections
aims to explore creativity as the touchstone of healthy, sustainable communities and celebrate the power of collaboration to inspire.
