The International Annual Literary prize, named after I. A. Goncharov

Ulyanovsk announces the open call for The International Literary prize, named after a great writer Ivan Goncharov, who was born in Simbirsk and was an author of the famous novel "Oblomov" (Ulyanovsk used to be called Simbirsk).

And this time the award has a surprise – a new special nomination for the writers from UNESCO Creative Cities. 

The Prizes will be awarded to both Russian and foreign citizens for their contribution to the development of the national culture, taking the form of making significant literary compositions and other creative works.

The winners will be awarded cash prizes. The prizes will be awarded by the Ulyanovsk Region Government.

The competition for the aforementioned prizes stipulates for the participation of the individuals, known as makers of literary and other creative works, published in Russian (in all categories).

The Prizes will be awarded in the four nominated categories:


1) “Artist in literary words”;
2) “Followers of I. A. Goncharov”;
3) “Legacy of I. A. Goncharov: studies and educational activities”;
4) “Writers of UNESCO Creative Cities”.

In the “Artist in literary words” nominated category, the 400 000 rubles prize will be awarded to a writer for the contribution to the development of traditions of realistic literature.

In the nominated category of “I. A.Goncharov’ followers”, the 200 rubles prize will be awarded to an aspiring writer under 40 years old for achievements in modern literature, based on the Russian realism traditions.

In the nominated category of “Legacy of I. A. Goncharov: studies and educational activities”, the 400 000 rubles prize will be awarded to academic specialists, engaged in scientific activities in the field of literary studies, specifically in the study of I. A. Goncharov’s legacy and classics of Russian literature of the mid-to-late-XIX century; as well as to cultural and art professionals, studying and promoting I. A. Goncharov’s legacy (authors of scientific studies, translations, motion pictures, theater productions, television and radio programs, as well as to promoters of museum expositions and exhibitions).

In the nominated category of ”Writers of UNESCO Creative Cities”, the 300 000 rubles prize will be awarded to an author of literary works, a resident of one of the cities, designated by UNESCO as creative, and who, in his creative work, is committed to traditions of realistic literature.

The award ceremony will take place during the celebration of Ivan Goncharov’s birthday in June 2020 in Ulyanovsk.
