9 May 2017 7:00pm
An examination and celebration of what ‘place’ means to artists and residents of Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand.
How is poetry and indeed art informed by a sense of place? Does art in turn define place, Dunedin writer Ian Loughran has curated an evening of poetry, discussion and music around this idea. New Zealand poets David Eggleton, Ian Loughran, Carolyn McCurdie, Emma Neale and Sue Wootton will read works on this theme and will each read works written especially for the evening that will premiere at the event; Dr Andrea Insch (Otago University) will share some work from her award-winning academic writing on ‘place’; and Molly Devine (voice) and Sam Van Betuw (piano) will perform new musical compositions (composed by Van Betuw) inspired by of some of the poems. New Zealand art and photography exploring ‘place’ will also feature at the event to include artist Robert Scott and photographer Michelle Chaklin-Sinclair.
