Poetry and Music: Kyra Gillies and Hangay Va

2 July 2021 6:30pm

Brace yourselves for 2 performances in one night: Poetess Kyra Gillies and the Instrumental Duo: Hangau Va (Manson Wright and James Macandre) performing with synth and the beautiful hang drum
Join local poet Kyra Gillies for an evening of fierce and loving rhymes, raps and reflections on the state of the planet and humanity. Hear poems from the Award Nominated Fringe Festival Show Dunedin 2021 (City of Literature - Beyond Words Award).
‘Fierce Love & Fresh Air’ is a poetic reckoning with collective healing and grief. Amongst fires, floods and viruses, the poet’s role is truth-telling and visioning beyond the chaos and pain of the present. Shifting between moments of softness and fast-paced rap, the show insists upon the importance of connection: loving and caring for each other and our Earth Mother.
Gender, racial and environmental justice are at the core of the show, unravelling topics from time, addiction, healing, abolition to love, growth and peace. This is a feisty heartfelt spoken word show not to be missed!
