It's Uncle Angus' 50th birthday, and the whole whanau are invited!
Nau Mai! Haere Mai!
Coming to a venue near you, Party with the Aunties is a celebration of a Kiwi family,
with a good singalong vibe... you may see someone you recognise.

Party with the Aunties is an original NZ work created by Mosgiel-born Erina Daniels and the original cast of 2011. First produced in a garage in Paekakariki as part of Daniels’ Masters Degree at Te Kura o Toi Whakaari/Victoria University, Wellington.

Party with the Aunties has since toured to many regions and festivals including Nelson, Christchurch and Taranaki Arts festivals, and has enjoyed representing theatre of Aotearoa at the 2016 Festival of Pacific Arts, in Guam.

Party with the Aunties takes place in local clubs, bars and community halls. You are invited to be a guest at Uncle Angus’ 50 th birthday party; the show will happen around you.

This feel-good show is the perfect way to celebrate the start of Summer!

"My Mum’s family, my Pakeha whakapapa – is from Otago and Clutha Southland.  My Dad, like many other Maori men, had chased the shearing season from the North Island to the South Island – where he met my Mum, and grew a strong family. I was born in Mosgiel, and raised in a small country town further south.

We worked hard and played hard. At our parties, my Uncles would be stomping their wool-socked feet to keep rhythm as they played guitars. And my Aunties would sing song after song – they knew all the words.

Party with the Aunties is about being together – and trying to enjoy each other, whilst we’re at it. It’s about being reminded to enjoy, because of each other; and to be hearty and cheeky as we get on with it.

Although the show has played to many Aunties and their families throughout NZ and beyond, Party with the Aunties has yet to show to the Aunties, Uncles and Cuzzies it was originally inspired from.

After 8 years of testing the show out on the road, we’re bringing the Party home!  Come round!

Party with the Aunties will show at a venue in your community – it might be the hall down the road, the club, the pub... We want you to feel at ease, where you’ll be at ease. This November 2019, Party with your Aunties at “Party with the Aunties.”.

REVIEWS

“The play was a wickedly funny celebration of New Zealand life, an extraordinary gift to us as a community."
- David Groves, Paekakariki Xpressed

“They give us an evening of laughter, with many touching moments as members of the family reunite, encounter, agree to differ and go their ways, all interlaced with song and guitar.”
- Sunny Amey, Theatreview

"It’s a relaxed and relaxing show, under the smart direction of Erina Daniels, and though it seems casually performed it isn’t... played with broad, sympathetic character strokes by a trio of hugely attractive, charismatic and talented performers"
-Laurie Atkinson
