National Maori Theatre Hui

26 - 29 November 2020

Puketeraki Marae are hosting the National Maori Theatre Hui and the organisers are very keen that locals / mana whenua (especially rakatahi) have the opportunity to know about the hui and either register to join in fully and/or keep in touch and come along for the pōwhiri and other opportunities to get a taste of the hui (e.g. Saturday evening there will be some new plays being read & performance of a new developing work). Our very own John Broughton (Emeritus Professor by day, playwright by night) is kaumatua for the hui.
The main kaupapa is around professional development & networking for Māori involved in performance (actors, dancers, writers, directors etc) – all aspects of presentation of performances. The organisers have some scholarships for Kāi Tahu rakatahi participation. There are Māori performers & directors from throughout the country registered including good representation from Te Waipounamu / Kāi Tahu theatre people. Unfortunately numbers to attend are limited as everyone works to ensure Covid-19 doesn’t make a comeback so you must register to attend the hui.
This is an exciting opportunity to be stimulated & engaged with what’s happening currently for Māori theatre & performance. Maybe you’ll dust off your own performance chops!
If you're interested in attending contact ASAP to help secure numbers.
