Learning lunch with Jenny Moss: Skirt Tales - The Sequel

9 December 2020 12:00pm

Join us for a lunchtime conversation with Jenny Moss. Jenny lives in Luggate and is a member of Otago Pioneer Women’s Memorial Association. She’s also a member of The Wanaka Women’s Suffrage Committee.
In 1993 when this group was formed to organise celebrations for The Centennial of New Zealand Women’s Suffrage it was decided to collect up 100 stories of women in the Upper Clutha. Skirt Tales was published two years later and since then has had 2 more editions.

In 2018, the 125th anniversary of New Zealand Women’s Suffrage, the committee reconvened and decided to write a sequel which was published in August this year.
Jenny will talk about the process involved for both books, the links between the two books, and the implications for the lives of urban and rural women in the Upper Clutha since 1893. Skirt Tales The Sequel was very well received locally and a second reprint of 600 books is now available through Wanaka’s two bookshops.
As Jenny says, each of the women whose stories are told are "a stitch in a much wider fabric of the community" and "we are all number 8 wire sheilas in our own contexts - urban and rural up and down New Zealand."
Guaranteed to be a most interesting conversation! All Welcome.
