SUMMARY:Author Talk: Miriam Frank - A Journey Around My Mother
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION:Join Miriam Frank for a candid look at her latest book, An Unfinished Portrait, a memoir tracing the incredible life of her mother through her photo album.
Following her mother’s journey, as she sought refuge from the horrors of twentieth-century Europe, from right-wing Germany, via the Spanish Civil War, Vichy France, Mexico, and London’s Bloomsbury, Miriam reconstructs a life peopled by political and cultural refugees, ex-Communists, photographers, artists, writers and historians. Weaving a delicate portrait of love, memory, mothers and daughters, Miriam Frank touches on some of life’s largest questions: how can we ever truly know those closest to us, and is it possible to find a home when you live a life of perpetual motion?
Miriam Frank arrived with her mother as a WWII exile in Christchurch, where she went to high school. She went on to train at Otago University medical school, before a career that took her to Israel and then London. She is a regular visitor to New Zealand.
