SUMMARY:Author Talk: Helene Wong, Inside Outside
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION:Author of Being Chinese: A New Zealander’s Story, Helene Wong, presents a talk first given as the Michael King Lecture at the Auckland Writers’ Festival in May 2016.
In contemplation of the ambivalence many New Zealand Chinese feel about themselves and their place in Aotearoa, Helene considers what it means to be New Zealand born, yet placed somehow ‘outside’ of New Zealand culture.
Brought to you by University Book Shop Otago, in partnership with Dunedin Public Libraries and Bridget Williams Books, and introduced by Professor Barbara Brookes, Department of History and Art History of the University of Otago.
Dunningham Suite, 4th Floor, Dunedin City Library
