Catch-Up Book Club: London Journal 1762–1763
18 August 2020 5:30pm
The Catch-Up Book Club is an informal group we run in partnership with the Department of English and Linguistics. A University of Otago lecturer, or other uniquely qualified person, talks about a classic you’ve heard about, read long ago, loved the film(s) or TV adaption(s), or have always meant to read; with questions and observations from the group … everyone is welcome, even those who actually aren’t going to read the book but would like to know more!
5.30pm for 6pm start: Join us at the bookshop on the Tuesdays below, from 5.30pm, for tea, coffee and treats; with a 6.00pm start for the talk, followed by bookish chat with fellow booklovers.
FREE! Seats are limited, and really popular, so please RSVP for each session: 03 477 6976 | email@example.com
London Journal 1762–1763 by James Boswell, with Dr Paul Tankard
The diary of Samuel Johnson’s biographer, detailing his boisterous life as a young man-about-town (he was just 22), meeting Johnson for the first time and adventuring in the demi-monde. Only discovered in 1920, its racy and honest lines never underwent, like his other diaries, extensive familial expurgation in the 19th century.
