Catch-Up Book Club: Jane Eyre
17 November 2020 5:30pm
The Catch-Up Book Club is an informal group we run in partnership with the Department of English and Linguistics. A University of Otago lecturer, or other uniquely qualified person, talks about a classic you’ve heard about, read long ago, loved the film(s) or TV adaption(s), or have always meant to read; with questions and observations from the group … everyone is welcome, even those who actually aren’t going to read the book but would like to know more!
5.30pm for 6pm start: Join us at the bookshop on the Tuesdays below, from 5.30pm, for tea, coffee and treats; with a 6.00pm start for the talk, followed by bookish chat with fellow booklovers.
FREE! Seats are limited, and really popular, so please RSVP for each session: 03 477 6976 | email@example.com
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, with Professor Emerita Jocelyn Harris
The well-loved tale of Jane Eyre, her fierce spirit and independence, inspired Rhys to write the story of the once spirited and independent Bertha, locked in a Thornfield attic while Jane is falling in love with Bertha’s husband.
