A Garden of Distant Longing: Lan Yuan Dunedin Chinese Garden Student Essay Competition

To celebrate last year’s tenth anniversary of Lan Yuan, the Dunedin Chinese Gardens Trust invites Year 11 to 13 students from all Dunedin secondary schools to enter this exciting one-off competition which closes on Thursday 29 August. You could win a generous cash prize for yourself and your school, sponsored by the Dunedin Chinese Gardens Trust. Prizes will be presented to the winning students at a special ceremony at Lan Yuan on Sunday 15 September as part of the Moon Festival. The competition is proudly supported by the Dunedin Chinese Gardens Trust, Dunedin Public Libraries, and Dunedin UNESCO City of Literature.

Submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words about Lan Yuan, Dunedin Chinese Garden, in the context of the remarkable contribution of the Chinese community in Dunedin and Otago from the gold rush to the present day. You could win a generous cash prize for yourself and your school, sponsored by the Dunedin Chinese Gardens Trust.
