The New Zealand Young Writers Festival (NZYWF) comprises four days of free, fun literary-focused events held annually in Ōtepoti/Dunedin, a UNESCO City of Literature. We welcome young writers of all stripes to celebrate all forms of wordsmithing, including (but not limited to): slam poetry, poetry, playwriting, songwriting, short story authors, novelists, zines, screenwriting, journalism, blogging, critical content creators, podcasts, review writing, and more.

The 2023 festival will be our ninth and will take place from Thursday 21 - Sunday 24 September 2023.

We are looking for a passionate, energetic writer to be this year’s festival Guest Curator, who will develop three events to be presented in the 2023 festival. They will also advise on the selection of five other events from a public call for presenters, and provide some production and marketing support to the festival. The Guest Curator will be paid a flat fee of $1,000 (+ GST); the festival will also cover travel, accommodation, airport transfers (if applicable) and per diem costs. Experience planning and delivering events would be useful!

We highly encourage Māori and Pasifika writers to apply, and writers from other historically excluded communities.

For the full schedule of work, please click here. Applications close Monday 29 May 2023. Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae and links or attachments to a short sample of your writing to look@youngwritersfest.nz
