Previous recipients have been anthropologist Hannah Bulloch; Wellington-based Pasifika story-teller and writer for both adults and children Maria Samuela; Auckland-based poet Michael Steven; and critic, essayist, lawyer, reviewer and creative fiction writer, John Forde (originally of Invercargill and Dunedin, but currently living in London). Hannah's tale of her mother's family's intrepid journey to the Isle of Skye will be published by Otago University Press next year; Maria was short-listed for last year's Commonwealth short story prize; Michael Steven's second poetry collection was published last year; and John finished polishing his novel and embarked on a new project using the Hocken as a key research tool. We're thrilled to have supported these writers in a small way and look forward to celebrating their ongoing writing achievements.
